New Year's resolutions and why they don’t work.

As the shittest year of our lives draws to a close, it’s safe to say many of us are happy to gleefully wave 2020 away and dance into the New Year on a non-covid related high. 👋

As the days get slightly longer (or shorter) and the weather cools down (or heats up), many of us are faced with planning our goals, hopes, dreams and resolutions for the New Year.

Let’s face it though. Isn’t it a little crazy that we wait all year to make those BIG plans and desires come true? Why aren’t we hustling mid-year, creating and reinventing our mood boards and planning our next business idea with our bestie? Life doesn’t begin once a year, it’s happening right now. Time is golden! 🌞

We’ve put together our top (and trusted!) tips as to why those *magical* resolutions just don’t work, and ways you can hustle, dream and do whatever your creative heart desires all year round. 🙌

Timing.

Time. We can’t catch it, nor can we pause it. You know that idea of waiting for the right time? Well, don’t. In reality, there is never going to be a perfect time for anything, and it especially won’t be on New Year’s Eve. Want to make a career change? Move countries? Open a business? Do it.

Heidi Priebe once wrote “The truth about the timing being wrong is that it’s nothing more than the world’s flimsiest reason not to try. It’s the simplest excuse to pack it in. It’s a pre-designed reason to bow out”.

Why wait for an event that comes around once a year and set all our timing within that, it only adds pressure. Rather than seeing excuses, see opportunity. So get those plans happening, girl! 😎

Here at G.Pump it’s been a massive year of change and new beginnings. Our very own Founder, Marlo created G.Pump while in lockdown! See what wonderful things can happen when you seek opportunities and believe in yourself?! Own it. 💪

Context.

Did you know that most resolutions aren’t stuck out past January? In order to grow and develop into our best selves, we need to be physically, mentally and emotionally ready.

When there is no motivation, no context, no drive - that’s when we can become unsuccessful in our ventures. Resolutions lack a strong foundation of meaning. They become meaningless and often the feeling and commitment run dry after the first few weeks.

Don’t let your rocket of ideas run out of fuel. 🚀

Manifest those good vibes and just do it. Forget waiting for a fresh slate (or a New Year), make it happen when you’re completely and absolutely committed to the process.

Set goals, but stop to enjoy the journey.

Goals are great and it’s SO important to set them. Although, goals can set a gap with your present and future self. Often with goals, we become hungry for more. Remember to stop and map out the journey and how many small steps will need to be taken in order to reach the golden prize at the end. 🌈

We become so obsessed with the idea that we will be happy once we reach that milestone that we forget to enjoy life right now. Your hard work is in progress, and it’s working right before your eyes.

The real result is in the experience and the process. 💗

Our tips?

Learn the art of reflection ….  all year round! Life is continually in a state of flux, so it’s vital to go with the flow and let things happen. ✨

Some things you can ask yourself;

  • What are three self-care routines I can commit to?

We LOVE the idea of taking a bath and reading a book, or enjoying a morning walk and stopping for a coffee at your local cafe. Self-care shouldn’t be just reserved for Sundays.

  • What is one way I can improve my finances?

Feeling overwhelmed in debt? Or perhaps you’re intrigued with the idea of an emergency fund? Look into it, plan it and do something about it! Even if it means cutting up that shiny credit card.

  • What is one thing I can do to improve my health?

G.Pump is a fun, high-energy way to improve your health and see results! If lockdown taught us anything, it’s that gyms can close, but G.Pump is 24/7! Want to get started? Sign up for your FREE 7-day trial here - https://gpump.com.au/membership

  • What are two career goals I would like to achieve?

Career goals don’t have to mean moving companies or gaining a promotion. It can mean learning a new skill and becoming an expert in it, or learning to communicate better with your colleagues. Either way, you’ll be an absolute girl-boss when you tick these goals off. ✔️

  • What are two new things I would like to try?

This could be anything from paddleboarding, to learning the art of French cuisine, to trying a G.Pump workout - get creative and get those endorphins happening! 🩰

Here’s to a brighter 2021 and some serious kick-ass goals! 🙌
